During the years following the US Civil War, the West Texas region was scene of the encounter nothing quiet between two cultures: the white and native-red skins. Elvis plays Pacer Burton, the son of a white rancher (John McIntire) and his beautiful wife of the Kiowa tribe (Dolores Del Rio). When the struggle between settlers and indigenous becomes a fact, Pacer becomes involved in brutal violence, despite his efforts to promote peace.
